The shortlist of 12 albums was announced at The Hospital Club, with Kasabian on hand for a performance of Underdog.

The judges remarks on the albums were:

Kasabian: "Kasabian gleefully seize the psychedelic heights! Explosive songs that fill epic rock spaces with absolute authority."

The winners of the 2009 prize will be announced live on BBC on Tuesday 8th September.
